Gerald J. "Jerry" Harber(1932 - 2011)
Harber, Gerald J. "Jerry" Beloved husband, loving brother, uncle and faithful friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov 6, 2011 at Harris Methodist Hospital in Bedford, TX. Jerry was born Oct 8, 1932 in Fort Wayne, IN to John Garrett Harber and Frances Anna
(VanDiver) Harber who preceded him in death. After moving to Anderson, IN, he graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1950. He attended General Motors Institute for 2 1/2 years before being drafted into the Army in 1953. He attended Officers Candidate School
at Ft. Benning, GA graduating as a 2nd Lt. in 1954. While in the army, Jerry recieved his Bachelors degree from the University of Maryland and his Masters degree from Texas A&M University. In May 1953 he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life,
Ella May McAllister. Jerry and Ellie resided in many places throughout the U.S. in addition to several tours of duty overseas. One of Jerry's most memorable assignments was teaching at Texas A&M University where he became a loyal fan of all Aggie sports along
with being a sponsor of the A&M Fish Drill Team. Jerry retired as a Lt. Col. in 1977.
In addition to his devoted wife, Ellie, Jerry is survived by his brothers, David and wife Phyllis Harber of Louisville, KY, and Paul Harber of Lewisville, TX. Also surviving are his sister Sondra Fridley of Anderson, IN, Sister-In-Law, Carole B. Stoops and
husband Bob, of Murrieta, CA and Brother-In-Law, Joseph W. McAllister and wife Dorcas of King City, CA along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating Jerry's life will be held at Bluebonnet Hills Chapel in Colleyville, TX at 12:30pm on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011. On Wed. Nov. 30, 2011 at 2:30pm Jerry will receive full military honors at the DFW National Cemetery before being laid
to rest. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Texas A&M Foundation Acct. # 0453094, 401 George Bush Dr., College Station, TX 77840 or the charity of your choice in Memory of Lt. Col. Gerald J. Harber Class of 1969.
