Robert Earl Linder
April 23, 1940 - October 17, 2011
Dr. Robert Earl Linder III.
Robert was born April 23, 1940 in Floydada, Texas & passed away in Portland, Oregon on October 17, 2011 at 9:55 PM. Robert's father was Robert Linder II and his mother was Dorothy Dale Powell.
He was raised in West Texas graduating from Monterey High School in Lubbock; then moving on to Texas A & M where he was awarded a PHD in Physics. Robert happily spent many years as a research associate at Stanford University. In 1980 he joined Surface Science Labs in Palo Alto, California where he worked until 1990. His later years were spent in the Tigard area as a consultant until he retired in 2006.
Along the way Robert married Barbara Anne Halley on June 25, 1962 in Lubbock, Texas. Together they raised a son, Christopher Rogers Linder, and a daughter Halley Anne Linder.
Robert is remembered by his loved ones as an avid sailor. For many years he owned a 23 foot Sailboat named "Circe". He and his family spent many memorable hours together on the water enjoying the wind and the waves. He also adored his Jack Russell Terriers.
Survivors include by his wife, Barbara; son, Christopher; daughter, Halley; Grandchildren, Karley Cottrell,
Robert Cottrell, Kendall Cottrell, Ashley Cottrell, Sydney Bixt, Allison Linder, and Samuel Linder. Robert is also survived by brothers, Michael Coleman Linder (wife, Barbara) ,Val Joe Linder, and Kevin McCorkle Linder (wife, Charee); and sister, Mary Katherine Lara (husband, Roy).
"Robert was our bear", "and we will miss him dearly".
Services will remain private at the families request.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society .
