Col. Mike Fossum '80, a former NASA astronaut, knows a thing or two about social distancing. Fossum, the current COO at Texas A&M University Galveston, shares his advice on handling isolation.
During his time at NASA, Fossum had the opportunity to spend months aboard the International Space Station. "There was a sense of isolation up there," he recalls. Due to the current COVID-19 environment, many Aggies around the world are experiencing similar feelings of isolation as they practice social distancing.
Drawing on his unique experiences, Fossum offers three pieces of advice for those staying home: give grace to others, maintain your routine, and stay connected to your loved ones, even if you can't see them face to face.
"Selfless service comes into play big-time in a time like this," he emphasizes, "this is the time for Aggies to help Aggies, for neighbors to help neighbors."
