Country music singer Neal McCoy was at Texas A&M on Tuesday, April 18, to join the Corps of Cadets in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to honor McCoy's recently deceased father, Hubert Neal McGaughey '52.

McCoy has recited the Pledge of Allegiance online for 470 days in a row, all streamed live on Facebook. He told the crowd gathered at the Corps of Cadets Quad that he was honored to be doing so at his father’s alma mater.

McGaughey, who passed away on March 25, received a bachelor's in civil engineering from Texas A&M . McCoy said that in addition to his father, he has many other Aggies in the family, including his daughter, brother, sister and brother-in-law. “I’ve bled maroon for years," he said. "I was the black sheep that didn’t attend here. I went out and tried a singing career. Some people say I did OK. I say the jury’s still out.”

Texas A&M presented McCoy and his siblings with three flags that have flown over campus in honor of their father.
