Six Former Students Complete School Board Leadership Program; Receive Master Trustee Designation

Stephanie Cannon '06 September 20, 2016 1:38 PM updated: September 20, 2016 1:46 PM

Thank you, Trisha Sheffield '91, for sending in such great news:

In Texas, school board members represent the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state with more than 7,000 Trustees representing over 5.2 million Texas public school children. While continuing education and training is a requirement of those who serve on school boards, participation in the Leadership TASB (Texas Association of School Boards) is optional and determined by an application and selection process.

This year’s LTASB class of 2016 graduated 33 Trustees, who serve school districts with student populations ranging from 160 to more than 160,000, and six of those were former students of Texas A&M University! In completing the year-long education leadership program that included focused leadership development training, site visits to diverse districts across Texas, a book study and education-specific research assignments, these six Aggies now have the unique designation of Master Trustee. This is the highest designation recognized by TASB. Graduation ceremonies took place on July 1, 2016, at the Petroleum Club in Fort Worth.
