Members of the first team Gene Stallings '57 coached at Texas A&M celebrated their 50-year reunion this weekend.
When Stallings, a Junction Boy himself, arrived as the Aggie's head coach in December, 1964, he whittled a team of 132 players down to just 57 players by the season opener. They were the survivors of a rigorous offseason conditioning program in DeWare Field House and G. Rollie White Coliseum.
"Junction was two weeks," said Jim Singleton '66, who ramrodded the reunion. "But we had to put up with Stallings for a whole semester." By 1967, Stallings had the Aggies winning the SWC title.
