JOHN ROY PIPES
Memorial services for John Roy Pipes, 83, of Gainesville, will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011 at the Hillcrest Church of Christ with Robert Pipes and David Gray officiating.

Mr. Pipes died Oct. 6, 2011 at his residence.

John Roy was born Sept. 1, 1928 in Thurber to Willie Brann and Julia Pauline (Duke) Pipes.

John Roy graduated from Tarleton State University in 1948 and Texas A&M in 1957 with an engineering degree.

He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force in Korea from 1951 to 1953.

In 1959, John Roy married Mary Watson in Fort Worth. He worked as a civil engineer for the Soil Conservation Service for 33 years before retiring. He then was employed by the Cooke County Environmental Health Department, retiring after seven years of service. Then John Roy opened his own business, Pipes Engineering Services, which operated for 10 years.

Mr. Pipes was an avid Leopards fan, following them with passion for 32 years.

John Roy is survived by his wife Mary Pipes of Gainesville; son, John L. Pipes of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Michael R. and Tana Pipes of Odessa and grandsons Brandon Pipes and Steven Pipes. He is also survived by five siblings.

Mr. Pipes is preceded in death by his parents and two siblings.
