Thomas Sinclair
— Thomas Graham Sinclair, 87, of Newport Beach, Calif., passed away Feb. 23, 2011.
He was born Jan. 17, 1924, in Greenville, and graduated from Greenville High in 1941. After two years at the Virginia Military Institute, he volunteered for duty in the Army, where he served with the 94th Infantry Division under Patton in the European theater.
He was awarded the Bronze Star for valor.
After the war, he graduated from Texas A&M in 1949. He soon began working for Standard Oil of Texas — now Chevron — and he retired in 1989 with 36 years of service.
He worked in various locales, including Venezuela, Bahrain and Sumatra in Indonesia, where he was vice president for CalTex — a subsidiary of Chevron — managing the work of more than 4,000 employees.
He married Olive Cameron, also of Greenville, in 1947.
Having worked for Chevron in San Francisco, he and Olive enjoyed the West Coast so much they decided to retire in Palm Desert, Calif. Olive passed away in 1993. He moved to Newport Beach, Calif., in 2006, where he lived in an assisted-living community until
his passing.
He is survived by two children, Thomas Graham Sinclair Jr. of Irvine, Calif., and Cynthia Kay Sinclair of San Rafael, Calif.; two grandchildren, Brian Graham Sinclair of Bend, Ore., and Jordan Thomas Sinclair of Irvine, Calif.; and two nieces, Jane Sinclair
Gilbert of Greenville and Susan Sinclair Sherman of Dallas.
A memorial at sea is planned for April, where he had requested his ashes be scattered with those of his beloved Olive in San Francisco Bay.
