MYRA — Memorial services for Ben M. Fulton, 92, of Myra are set for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012, in the Geo. J. Carroll and Son Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bob Massey officiating.

Mr. Fulton passed away on March 28, 2012, in Gainesville.

Ben was born on March 22, 1920, in Myra to Issac C. and Mildred Jane Jones Fulton. Ben was a graduate of Texas A&M University and received a B.A. degree in agronomy and agricultural education in 1947, and his master’s degree in 1951. During World War II, he served in the Marine Corps as a master sergeant, seeing action in the South Pacific, and took part in the invasions of the Solomon Islands, New Georgia and Bouganville.

He married Janet Kappelman on March 25, 1948, in Bonham. Ben then moved to Quannah in 1967, to assume the position of district conservationist and served there for 20 years after having served with the Soil Conservation Service in Clarksville, Henrietta and Archer City. Prior to joining the SCS, he taught vocational agriculture for three years in Bonham. Mr. Fulton was employed by MHMR for several years before retiring to ranching. Ben loved to paint, especially landscapes and outdoor scenes.

Ben is survived by a son, Murray Fulton of Lindsay and daughter and son-in-law Hollie and David Finley of Colleyville; one grandson; and a sister, Nell Powell of Myra.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Janet Fulton.
