Army Lieutenant Colonel David E. Cabrera '92 died on Oct. 29 of injuries suffered when a suicide bomber rammed an armored bus in the Afghan capital of Kabul. Lt. Col. Cabrera was a clinical social worker with the Army’s Medical
Service Corps. He leaves behind his wife, August, and four children.
Lt. Col. Cabrera earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University and joined the U.S. Army as a medical service corps officer in January 1996.
In an interview with
Chron.com, Navy Captain (Dr.) Mark Stephens called Lt. Col. Cabrera a "soldier’s soldier." He said Lt. Col. Cabrera was “professionally happiest when in the field with his troops. His sense of service, love of God, family and country are an inspiration
to us all.”
He is the 25th Aggie to make the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation since combat operations began in 2003.

The Battalion, members of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets served as the color guard ensemble and provided usher services at Lt. Col. Cabrera's funeral. The funeral was Nov. 11 in Spring, Texas, at Spring Baptist Church.
