For many college students, spring break is a vacation, but for others, it’s an opportunity to make a difference. For the past 10 years, Alternative Spring Break has provided service and volunteer-focused work trips
for spring breakers interested in getting more than just a suntan.
Last year, The Association of Former Student helped with travel expenses for a trip to Galveston, where members spent the day cleaning up debris in three homes that were severely damaged during Hurricane Ike. “It was dirty, hard work, but it was necessary for
these families to be able move on to the next step,’ said
President Ashley Teel ’09.
“For our group of 30 to come in for one day and make visible change was incredibly powerful.” This year during spring break, ASB will expand volunteer opportunities for its members with six service trips, including one abroad.
