“The Aggie Network is never more apparent than when one Aggie spots another Aggie by his or her Aggie ring. That moment of connection can occur anywhere – in an interview, at an airport, or sitting next to one another at church. We wanted to allow a graduate, who might not otherwise have been able to obtain one, to receive an Aggie ring and wear it proudly. Who knows where that next connection might lead? Gig ’em”

Jon and Johnette met in class in the spring of 1968 when he was a senior and she was a junior. They married in October. Jon's father was Class of '25 and his brother is class of '65, so A&M has always been a huge part of life for the family. It became even more so when their children, Shanna, class of '98, and Scott, class of '00, started. They had always hoped to give back to the university they loved but had not decided how or what to do.
“In 1996 I traveled to Israel with my high school best friend, and in Jerusalem we went into a jewelry store. I pointed at something in the case that I wanted to see and the young man behind the case grabbed my hand saying "You're an Aggie! You're an Aggie!" I learned that he was born in Israel, but had relatives in Houston, so he came to college at Texas A&M, received a degree in business, and is now running the family business. He was so excited to meet another Aggie and we had an instant bond of family because of Texas A&M and how recognizable the Aggie ring is. The Aggie ring is the most visible symbol of the Aggie Family. That is when Jon and I decided we wanted to help students not financially able to purchase a ring to be able wear that symbol, so we established the Johnette '70 and Jon '68 Jarvis Aggie Ring Scholarship. And it has been a huge blessing to us to be able to help students and to have opportunity to meet them and learn about their hopes and dreams.”

His wife, Kelly ’86 graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelor’s of arts degree in history. Kelly held various teaching positions through 1997, and has since been a homemaker.
As we began making college plans with our daughter this year, it became a time to remember all the great times we had while attending A&M, and how much of an impact A&M has had on our lives. From meeting each other in Sbisa to the values A&M instills in its students, our lives have been shaped by that time. Jobs on campus, scholarships, student loans, and the generosity of others helped us graduate, and we wanted to give just a little bit back.
