Roll Call Tribute

Christina "Christie" Foux '98 September 16, 2025 2:04 PM updated: September 16, 2025 2:15 PM

Christina Marie "Christie" (Rieks) Foux

March 9, 1976 - August 23, 2025

Christina "Christie" Rieks Foux was a force of nature, a whirlwind of joy and laughter that danced through the world for 49 vibrant years. Born on March 9, 1976, in Houston, Texas, to the loving David Earl Rieks and Anna Marie Heredia Rieks, Christie was a spirited soul from the start. She grew up alongside her siblings, David Scott Rieks and Amy Marie Rieks Heaner. Her vibrant spirit and warm heart were evident from a young age, traits that she carried throughout her life.

On August 23, 2025, her light left the world in Leander, Texas, due to an unforeseen accident at home.

Christie's life was an endless play of love, laughter, and adventure. She married her best friend and partner in crime, Michael Joseph Foux, in Sulphur, LA, on November 29, 2008, on a day filled with love, a collapsing trellis, and more dance moves than a Swiss watch.

Their union was blessed with a son, Ridley Jude Foux, who inherited his mother's mischievous twinkle, her boundless energy, and her ability to misplace things.

A proud product of Parker Elementary, Johnston Middle School, and Westbury High School, Christie was a triple threat: soccer player by day, orchestra bass violinist by dusk, and brigade drill team member by night. She worked as lifeguard for eight years, starting in high school and continuing into college. Her educational journey brought her to Texas A&M University and then Southwest Texas (Texas State), where she graduated with a degree in elementary education in 2002, ready to shape young minds and occasionally, their dance moves.

For 23 years, Christie illuminated the halls of Central Texas schools, including Villarreal Elementary in San Antonio, Cathy Caraway Elementary in Austin, Ronald Reagan Elementary in Cedar Park, and Tarvin Elementary in Leander. Her last few years were spent teaching special education at Danielson Middle School in Leander, where she didn't just teach, she practiced the art of patience, the power of a well-timed joke, and the importance of bringing extra snacks for her students.

Her interests were as diverse as her karaoke playlist, dancing, swimming, and going on cruises. She was an adventurer at heart, whether hiking through nature or planning parties and family vacations down to the last detail.

At the end of a long day, Christie's greatest joy was to sit outside her country home, watching the sunset to the sound of her favorite songs. Her adventurous spirit, friendly demeanor, and spirited personality made her the life of every party, and the heart of her family and friends.

Christie touched thousands of lives, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, a collection of treasured memories in the minds of all who knew her, and a reminder to revel in every ounce of what life has to offer. Her time on earth was a testament to the power of positivity and the importance of a good happy hour. Every room she entered was brightened, not only by her amazing smile and infectious laugh, but by her genuine excitement to see every person in the room. Christie never asked to be the life of the party, the center of attention...but she always was. Every time we saw her, we were all drawn to her heart and spirit. She will be remembered not just for the lives she touched, but for the laughter she left behind. So, let's raise a glass, sing our favorite songs, and dance in her honor, because that's exactly what Christie wanted.

We will never see another like her. She was light and gravity.

Christie is survived by her devoted husband, Michael Foux; her beloved son, Ridley Foux; her parents, David Rieks and Anna Rieks; her sister, Amy Heaner; her mother in law, Roxanne Foux; brothers and sisters in law, Anthony Heaner, Jason Foux, Tasha Gray, David Foux, Sherra Claxton, Brian Foux, Allie Ponvelle, Jaron Foux, Matthew Foux, Kennedie MacNeill-Foux, Nathaniel Foux, Crystal Ford, and Stephen Foux, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as an endless community of friends and colleagues who will miss her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her brother, David Scott Rieks (Scott)
