John E. Wakefield

April 17, 1930 - August 1, 2025

John Wakefield, age 95, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025. He was born in Waxahachie, Texas on April 17, 1930 to J.D. and Karin Wakefield. John attended Texas A&M University, where he was appointed Company Commander in the Corp of Cadets, and graduated in 1951 with a degree in Animal Science. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, served in the Korean War, and held the rank of Captain.

In 1954, he married the love of his life, Lottie Marie McWhirter, and raised five exceptional children and four beautiful granddaughters. He was a well-known, respected, and dedicated Williamson County Agricultural Agent for 30 years, receiving numerous accolades and awards, and later transitioned to farm and ranch real estate sales for Coldwell Banker. His commitment of more than 50 years to Georgetown and Williamson County earned him the trust and respect of the community.

John was strong in his faith and a member of First United Methodist Church. He was also deeply passionate and actively involved in the community through the Williamson County A&M Club, the Optimist Club, the Kiwanis Club, and the Georgetown Country Club. He was a lifelong, devoted supporter of all Texas A&M athletics and rarely missed a game.

John was known for his warmth, wisdom, and witty sense of humor. He was full of energy, enthusiasm, and athleticism, and was always on the go and active throughout his entire life. John was a friend to many, an avid racquetball player, and enjoyed swimming with his local swim group.

Above all, John loved and cherished his family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54-years, Lottie, his oldest daughter Patti, his precious granddaughter Lena Marie, and brother, Joe. He is survived by children Kerry, Jan, Jon, and Lisa (Larry), grandchildren Brandee (Curtis), Karin (Roland), Hana, Dillon, and Grant.

The Wakefield family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Wesleyan at Estrella Assisted Living in Georgetown.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in John’s name to the Williamson County A&M Club, PO Box 1164, Georgetown, Texas 78627.

A celebration of life will be Saturday, August 9, 2025, 10:30 am, at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 N. IH-35 (Westside service road), Georgetown, TX 78628.
