James Hutchison "Hutch" Bryan, Jr. 

February 1, 1963 - July 4, 2025 

James Hutchison Bryan, Jr. was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on February 1, 1963, to Beda Ann Nelson and James Hutchison Bryan, Sr. He passed away at the age of 62 on July 4, 2025, in Hunt, Texas alongside his beloved wife, Elizabeth Blackbird Bryan.

Hutch grew up in Corpus Christi and cherished his time at Rawhide Ranch Camps in Cody, Wyoming, He graduated from Richard King High School in 1981. He went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University and later received his graduate degree from Texas A&M University.

He met the love of his life, Beth Bryan, while participating in Buccaneer Days in Corpus Christi, Texas. They continued their courtship while studying abroad in Madrid, Spain and were married at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas on June 27th, 1986. They began building a life full of love, purpose, and adventure and had just celebrated 39 wonderful years of marriage this past June.

Hutch started his career in banking and financial services in Houston, where their son, Hutcher, was born in 1999. In early 2002 the family moved to New York City, where they welcomed their daughter, Kate, in 2003. They later settled in Larchmont, New York, where they created cherished family memories. In 2009, work brought them back home to their roots in Texas, where they continued to grow in faith, friendship, and community-especially during weekends spent at the Blackbird family home in Hunt, Texas, a place dear to their hearts.

They were proud members of the Forest Club in Houston, the Larchmont Yacht Club in New York, and the Argyle in San Antonio.

Hutch lived a life deeply rooted in faith, family, and service to others. A devoted member of Christ Episcopal Church in San Antonio, he was known for his unwavering kindness, generosity of spirit, and steadfast love for those around him. He also regularly attended St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston, Church of the Heavenly Rest in New York City, and St. John's Episcopal Church in Larchmont, New York.

He is survived by his son, James Hutchison Bryan III, and his daughter, Katherine Merritt Bryan; his brother-in-law, Royle Brian Blackbird, and wife Chelsea; his sister-in-law, Brooke Blackbird Zarbaugh, and husband Matt; as well as six beloved nieces and nephews.

Hutch's legacy of compassion, grace, and faith lives on through his children and all those fortunate enough to have known him. His favorite pastime was spending time with his loved ones, whether playing tennis, padel, at a Rolling Stones concert, a baseball game, or at home.

A memorial service honoring both Hutch and Beth will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Christ Episcopal Church, 510 Belknap Pl., San Antonio, Texas.
