Kenneth Lloyd "Ken" Steelhammer
September 14, 1934 - June 2, 2025
Kenneth Steelhammer, a devoted husband, father, veteran, and lifelong Texan, passed away peacefully on June 2nd at the age of 90.
Born and raised in Brady, Texas, Kenneth was a proud graduate of Brady High School. He continued his education at Texas A&M University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture and was a dedicated member of the Corps of Cadets.
Following graduation, Kenneth served on active duty in the United States Army at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, as part of the Air Defense Artillery. He later transitioned to the Army Reserves, ultimately retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel — a testament to his steadfast commitment and leadership.
Kenneth devoted 38 years of his professional life to El Paso Natural Gas Company, where he was respected for his diligence and integrity. It was in 1957, at a Lutheran student conference, that Kenneth met the love of his life, Connie. Their shared faith and deep affection led to a marriage that lasted 68 wonderful years. Together, they built a home filled with love and laughter, first in El Paso, where they lived for 48 years, and later in San Antonio, where they moved in 2005.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Connie Steelhammer. He is survived by children, Dianne Pitts and Terry Steelhammer (Debby); his beloved grandchildren, Ashleigh Udick (Eric), Weston Steelhammer (Katelynn), Colton Pitts, Courtney Trebing (Chris), Colby Ingram, and Caleb Ingram; and eight great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends from 9:00-9:30 A.M., June 23, 2025 at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 North Loop 1604 East. The Funeral Service will follow at 9:30 A.M., in the Chapel.
He will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, with full military honors.
Kenneth will be remembered for his strong moral character, his deep devotion to family, and his unwavering faith. He leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a family deeply proud of the man he was.
