David R. Seguin, DDS
December 1, 1959 - May 8, 2025
At approximately 3:00pm on Thursday May 8th, 2025, Deacon David R. Seguin, DDS won his year long battle with papillary renal cell carcinoma and went to his heavenly home while surrounded by his beloved wife and two daughters. David Seguin was born on December 1, 1959 in San Antonio, Texas. He spent his childhood in Kirby, Texas with his parents and three brothers. He was the first in his family to graduate from college and was a proud member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 1982. He went on to receive his DDS from the Dental School at UT Health Science Center San Antonio in 1985. He married the love of his life, Julia Murphy on April 4th, 1987. He was commissioned into the United States Army in 1989 and served three years in the Army Dental Corps at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. While in Georgia, David and Julie welcomed their first daughter, Bridget Nicole on their third wedding anniversary in 1990. The family returned to San Antonio and entered into private dental practice in 1992. In February of 1993 their second daughter, Audrey Lillian was born.
Dr. Seguin was recognized as an exceptional dentist and served the community for 40 years, only retiring when the cancer left him unable to work. He loved his patients and staff and considered them to be his extended family and a significant blessing in his life.
David spent many years serving the church on various ACTS retreat teams (including Prison Ministry and Recovery Ministry) and played drums in the Life-teen band. He was also a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. He answered the call to his diaconate vocation in 2006. He was ordained a deacon in the Catholic Church in 2011 after five years of intensive formation and study. Deacon David served faithfully at St. Mark’s Catholic Church and then Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Outside of the dental office and off of the altar, David was a devoted husband, father and friend. He loved to play the drums, exercise at Sonterra, golf, care for his lawn, and was quite the expert bartender. David became a grandfather just four short years ago and was frequently seen ordering new toys for his grandkids online and sitting on the floor playing Hot-wheels before beginning cancer treatments.
David was preceded in death by his father Roger J. Seguin. He is survived by his mother, Grace (Kubersky), his loving wife, Julie (Murphy), daughter, Bridget Surratt and her husband Steven, daughter, Audrey Rehkamp and her husband Mitchel, his four adorable grandchildren: Wesley Rehkamp, Harper Surratt, Amelia Rehkamp, Walker Surratt and baby Rehkamp (Oct. 2025). He is also survived by his three brothers: Steven Seguin and his wife Rose, Rusty Seguin, Kieth Seguin and his wife Heliane, the Murphy in-laws and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A rosary service for David will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at 7:00 PM in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, San Antonio, TX 78258. A funeral mass will be conducted on Friday, May 16, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
