Curtis Ray Mills

Curtis Ray Mills, aged 91, passed away on June 29, 2024, in Houston, Texas. Born on November 14, 1932, in Thornton, Texas, Curtis was a devoted follower of Christ, a loving family man, and a respected professional in the petroleum engineering field.
Curtis graduated from Austin High School in 1951 and continued his education at Texas A&M University, where he earned degrees in Petroleum Engineering in 1955 and Geology in 1956. Shortly after his academic achievements, he served as a Second Lieutenant in the Army from June 1956 until October 1962, stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
Following his military service, Curtis embarked on a notable career, initially with Sun Oil Company, which took him to various locations in Louisiana. In 1977, he moved to Houston, Texas, and transitioned to North American Royalties, followed by a long and fulfilling career at JM Huber Corporation, where he retired.
Throughout his life, Curtis was an active member of several Churches of Christ, including Lawndale, New Iberia, Opelousas, Riverside, and finally Kingwood Church of Christ, where he worshipped until his passing.
Curtis's personal interests included reading, woodworking, studying the Bible, and enjoying movie nights. His love for the Colorado mountains was well-known among his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Lee Ann Marler, and her husband, Todd, of Kingwood; son, Steven Curtis Mills of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Michael Marler and his wife Bailey of New Caney, Texas, Lindsey Brooke Marler of Dublin, Ohio, Ashley McLaughlin and her husband Shane of Atlanta, Georgia, and Parris Diaz and her husband Alex; great-grandchildren, Lucas Ryan Marler and Henry Michael McLaughlin; sister, Bonne Spell and her husband Walter; and numerous cousins and nephews. Curtis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mattie Pearl Mills; his parents, Curtis A. and Prudence Mills; and his granddaughter, Callie Faith Marler.
A memorial service will be held on July 20, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Kingwood Church of Christ, 2901 Woodland Hills Drive, Kingwood, Texas. Darst Funeral Home is assisting the family during this time.
