Johnny Clay Johnson

December 8, 1943 - January 4, 2025

Dr. Johnny Clay Johnson, affectionately known as JC, passed away peacefully at home on January 4, 2025, in his hometown of San Antonio, TX, at the age of 81. Born on December 8, 1943, JC's life was marked by his passion for helping others, his boundless generosity, and his love for adventure.

JC is survived by his loving family: his son, Henry Clay Johnson and daughter-in-law, Caroline Vaughn Johnson; his cherished grandchildren, Honey Caroline Johnson and Vaughn Clay Johnson; his mother, Josephine Lawerence Stribling; his older brother, James (Jiggie) Johnson and sister-in-law, Jo Anne; his younger brother, Bob Bodet and sister-in-law, Pat; and his sister-in-law Lynn Bodet. He also leaves behind many adoring nieces and nephews, as well as his very special friend and companion, Courtney Walker. JC was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 30 years, Ethel Affleck Johnson, and his brother, Skip Bodet.

JC's educational journey was a testament to his lifelong love of learning. He began his academic pursuits at Mount Sacred Heart Catholic School, followed by Central Catholic High School. His quest for knowledge took him to Tulane for his undergraduate studies, after which he earned a master's degree from the University of Kansas and a Doctorate at Texas A&M. JC's dedication to education laid the foundation for his remarkable career.

For decades, Dr. Johnson ran a successful psychology practice, specializing in children and adolescents. His dedication to his work and the impact he had on the lives of countless young individuals was a source of great pride and joy for him. JC's selfless nature shone through in his professional life, as he tirelessly worked to ensure that every child he encountered was given the opportunity to thrive.

JC's zest for life extended far beyond his professional endeavors. He was an accomplished metalsmith, a hobby he pursued with enthusiasm, creating beautiful pieces and forming lasting friendships with fellow artisans across the country. His love for his family and friends was paramount; he was deeply involved and invested in their lives, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.

Normandie Ranch in Helotes held a special place in JC's heart, as it was where he was raised alongside his brothers. It was a place of fond memories and lasting bonds. Similarly, his home in Maine, Bay Ledges, was his happy place-a sanctuary where he found peace and solace. JC often referred to Maine and his home there as "magic land".

Travel was another of JC's great passions. His adventures began after his time at Tulane, when he embarked on extensive world travels, trekking through the Himalayas and backpacking through India, Africa, South America, and Europe. His spirit of adventure didn't wane after marrying his beloved Ethel; together, they continued to travel, sharing moments of wonder and discovery, in a more refined manner than he had done during his younger years.

JC will be remembered as a man of deep passion, unyielding selflessness, and remarkable generosity. His legacy is one of profound kindness and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. JC's life was a tapestry woven with love, kindness, and the rich experiences of a life well-lived.

As we bid farewell to Dr. Johnny Clay Johnson, we celebrate a life that touched so many, a mind that never stopped seeking knowledge, and a heart that never stopped giving. JC's memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. We want to leave you with a motto of JC's: Make sure you dance a little every day!
