Steven Mac "Steve" Timmons

January 19, 1952 - June 2, 2023

Steven Mac Timmons passed away on June 2, 2023, surrounded by his beloved rugby friends on their annual fishing trip to South Louisiana. Steve, known by many as SOOTO, was born on January 19, 1952, in Shreveport, LA to the late Jack Powell Timmons and Wanda McLeod Timmons.

Steve graduated from Texas A&M University, Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in environmental design in 1974. Shortly after graduating, Steve opened SOOTO Records (Something Out of The Ordinary), which was known for its eclectic and changing selection of music, its support of local musicians, and bringing some of the greatest rock acts of the era to town. In later years Steve worked with Oscar-winning local author, illustrator, and filmmaker William Joyce. Steve was also a founding member of the Shreveport Rugby Club, where he continued to be a mainstay until the end, supporting and encouraging young players. As Joyce observed, “SOOTO is the real deal, a genuine Shreveport character…Rock ‘n’ Roll will never die and neither will ‘The SOOTO’.”

Steve’s love of music and rugby was only surpassed by the love he had for his family. He is survived by his daughters, Ashley Timmons Flurry (Robert Doyle Flurry) of Birmingham, Alabama, Laurie Timmons McRae (Charles Collier McRae) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Mary Martha Waterworth (Lucas Paul Waterworth) of Jacksonville, Florida; his seven grandchildren, Thomas Czigan Flurry, Elizabeth Weems Flurry, Virginia Abrams Flurry, Harper Evans McRae, Wesley Price McRae, Wells Lucas Waterworth, and Maxcy Jones Waterworth; two brothers, Mitchell Jack Timmons and Victor Alan Timmons; and sister, Jawan Timmons Keeth.

Steve never met a stranger. He was kind, a caregiver, designer, and creator. Talented to the extreme. Truly Something Out of The Ordinary.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. with a visitation starting at 10:30 a.m. at Osborn Funeral Home, 3631 Southern Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Northwest Louisiana Rugby Foundation at http://shreveportrugbyclub.com/nwla-rugby-foundation/
