Ronald Kenneth "Ron" Holcomb
September 28, 1953 - January 16, 2025
Ronald Kenneth Holcomb was born in Denton, TX on September 27, 1953 to James and Rosella Holcomb. He graduated from Denton High School in 1971, and went to Tarleton State right after high school.
After a couple of years, he transferred to Texas A&M University to major in Agriculture, graduating with a BS in Animal Science in 1975, and then a MS in Horse Training in 1977. He met his one and only love, Karen, at Texas A&M in the Aggie BSM, in 1975. They married after graduation on October 1, 1977. During this time, he was employed by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, working there until God called Ron and his wife Karen, in 1982 to spend their next ten wedding anniversaries in the special location of Jos, Nigeria, where they were missionaries.
Ron was the Ag teacher and Farm manager for Baptist High School Jos, then a veterinarian assistant as a way of ministering to the Fulani people. In 1991, Ron and Karen’s only child, Jessica, was born while in Nigeria. After that, in 1993, they felt God calling them to resign to stay in the states where Ron and Karen were house parents at Miracle Farm for Youth in Independence, TX. After a brief time in College Station, the family moved to Dayton, TX in 1998. Here, Ron would return to Texas AgriLife as the County Agent for Liberty County. He retired in 2012 when health issues arose. Later that year, he was diagnosed with Alzheimers, battling it until January 16, 2025, when God called him home, with his wife and friend beside him.
Ron’s first love was the Lord and he faithfully served God over the years as a deacon, ordained minister, missionary, singles director, Sunday school teacher, and discipler.
He is preceded in death by: James Gerald Holcomb and Rosella Holcomb, his brother James Benjamin Holcomb and sister Marcia Coale.
He is survived by: wife Karen Holcomb, of 47 married years, and daughter Jessica Holcomb, nephew James (Jay) Holcomb, niece Angela K Escue (Holcomb), and nephew David Coale, brother in law and sister in law Derrel and Marion Jaynes, nephew Ryan Jaynes and wife Catha, nephew Stuart Jaynes and wife Courtney, nephew Brent Jaynes and niece Holly Prude and husband Hunter, and his great nieces and nephews and many other friends and family.
A graveside and committal ceremony will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton, Texas. A memorial service for Ron will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, located at 602 N. Main St., Dayton, Texas.
