Russell Lee Kennedy
May 9, 1983 - September 30, 2023
Russell Lee Kennedy went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 30, 2023. He was born to Rodger and Nan Kennedy in Lubbock, Texas, in May of 1983. He and his younger siblings, Korey and Amanda, were raised in a Christian home and were taught to love God and to love others from a young age. He grew up in Abilene, Texas, enjoying being a boy scout, in which he attained the rank of Eagle Scout, and playing the trumpet in the Cooper Band.
After graduating high school, he attended Texas A&M University where he studied Civil Engineering and met his beloved bride, Angela. While at college, the Lord used his membership at Central Baptist Church to grow his faith and his desire to know Him. Russell and Angela wed in 2005 and both graduated with Master of Engineering degrees in 2006. They then moved to the North Dallas area where they joyfully welcomed four children into their family: Caedmon, Bryson, Coventry, and Grayson. He was a caring father who enjoyed spending time with his family – doing projects, having meaningful conversations, taking pictures, playing spades, learning, going to Colorado, cuddling, watching movies, being outdoors, snow-skiing, laughing, and most importantly pointing his people to Jesus.
Russell gave himself wholeheartedly to the ministry of his church devoting countless hours to selflessly serve the people of The Trails Church as an elder. He discipled, counseled, equipped, prayed for, and loved people unconditionally with the amazing love Jesus had shown to him. He loved his wife and children deeply but loved his Lord and Savior above all.
Russell loved being a Civil Engineer and working for Kimley-Horn for 17 years. The Lord used his skills to help The Trails Church with the planning and construction of the building of their new church home.
He is survived by his wife, Angela Kennedy; children, Caedmon, Bryson, Coventry, and Grayson Kennedy; parents, Rodger and Nan Kennedy; brother, Korey Kennedy and wife, Macie and their four children; sister, Amanda Wicker and husband, Patrick and their two children; beloved in-laws, Sherry and Loren Cronin and Rick Schleider; loved sister-in-law, Christina O’Brien and husband, Samuel.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Providence Church, 5625 Preston Road, Frisco, Texas 75034.
In the care of Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home.
