Clarence R. "C.R." Salmon, Jr.
February 16, 1945 - August 19, 2023
C.R. Salmon, Jr. went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday August 19, 2023.
C.R. was born in Argyle, TX on February 16, 1945 to C.R. “Happy” Salmon and Oneta Salmon.
C.R. graduated from Denton High School in 1963 and went on to Texas A&M University where he joined the Corps of Cadets as a member of C-1 and received his BS in Agricultural Education in 1967. He received his MEd in Agricultural Education in 1968 and achieved his PhD in 1982 all from Texas A&M.
C.R and Linda wed in 1966 celebrating almost 57 years of marriage and raised a daughter and son, Kim and Kyle. He spent many years with Texas 4-H eventually becoming the State 4-H Leader of Kansas from 1983 until his retirement in 1994. For his second career, C.R. successfully sold real estate in the same Argyle and Justin area where he was raised until he retired again in 2013.
C.R. was active in the Lion’s club and First Baptist Church Justin, loved running, traveled to many countless sporting events for his grandkids, and loved going to or watching as many Aggie football, baseball and basketball games as he could. He loved life and rarely turned down an adventure including many family vacations. C.R. never met a stranger, and most received a hardy “Gig ‘Em” when they encountered him. He loved to tell stories. As time went on, the details of those stories changed a little bit, but he always told them with a gleam in his eye.
C.R., Dad, and Papa is survived by his wife, Linda; his sister Nancy Hallmark and brother-in-law Gerald; his daughter Kim Salmon, his son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Melissa Salmon; grandchildren Taylor Dunlap (and wife Megan, great-grandchildren Stryker and Asher), Alyssa Corley (and husband Josh), Trey Dunlap, Zeke Dunlap, Diana Salmon and Luke Salmon; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Justin on Thursday, August 24th from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Friday at the church with burial to follow at Prairie Mound Cemetery. Attendees are encouraged to wear maroon in honor of C.R.’s love for everything Aggie.
