Dr. Joseph Michael "Mike" Livengood passed away on January 12, 2022. He was born September 25, 1948, to Joe and Mary Livengood who preceded him in death. He grew up in Winston-Salem, graduated from North Forsyth HS, received his B.S. and M.S. from Appalachian State University, and his Ph.D. from Texas A & M University.

His life’s journey took him and his wife, Janie Bleckley Livengood, to Texas, Natchez, MS, and back home to Winston-Salem where he partnered with Strader’s Pizza and later BreakTime Billiards and Sports Bar.

Mike’s greatest passion was his love of family and friends and a thirst for learning and research. He had a giving heart to help others and touch countless lives. He loved Mt. Tabor UMC, the beach, the mountains, watching any sporting event, and everything of nature. However, his special love and joy were for Janie and their daughter, Elizabeth Ann Duttera, her husband Thomas, and grandsons James Thomas III and Joseph Michael.

In addition to his wife and daughter, Mike is survived by his brother, Eddie (Vassar) Livengood and his Bleckley brothers-in-laws Jimmy (Missy), Jerry (Susie), and Joe (Susie), and a host of Whitman and Livengood families he treasured. He was also deeply loved and will be missed by his many nieces and nephews: Daniel and Sierra Livengood; Banks, Dan, Sarah Kathryn, and Sam Scothorn; Rachel, Jaylen, and Luna Edwards; Sarah, Jason, and Lucy Merrill; Martha Sue, Scotty, Palmer, and Abigail Dunaway; Rebecca Bleckley; Jeb and Karen Bleckley; Will, Tammy, and Kaitlyn Bleckley.

To honor Mike’s love of learning, please consider making a donation to Mt. Tabor UMC Goodchild Scholarship Fund, 3543 Robinhood Road Winston-Salem, NC 27106, or the charity of your choice.
