Jerry R. Warring

April 8, 1937 - July 31, 2023

Jerry Warring, 86, of Cypress, Texas died peacefully at home on July 31, 2023 after a long, brave battle with respiratory complications. He was born at home in Houston on April 8, 1937 to Sallie and Jack Henry Warring. Jerry attended Marshall Junior High and Jeff Davis High School.

In his senior year of high school, May 1955, Jerry enlisted in the Army with his buddies, Joe D. Jackson and Mickey Mohr. He attended Advanced Infantry Training Jump School in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Jerry served as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne, 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment Co. L. He was stationed in Germany from January 1956 to April 1958.

Jerry enrolled in Civil Engineering at Texas A&M University as the Class of ‘62 in September, 1958. He graduated in 1964.

After graduation, Jerry worked his way up from a field engineer to become President of Warrior Constructors. At work, he enjoyed purchasing and awarding contracts and had a gift for negotiations. He also worked on many construction projects with SpawGlass. He was proud to be a member of the American Arbitration Association Panel and a lifetime member of 11th Airborne Division Association.

While on a golfing trip to Austin, he met Darlene Hull. She was a waitress at the restaurant where his group went for lunch. He followed her around the restaurant until she gave him her phone number. They were married in Austin on May 27, 1966, recently celebrating 57 years of marriage.

Jerry was the loving and very proud dad to Jack, Jeff, Joe Kyle, and adopted daughter Kaylene J. Corum-Wyatt.

He was an avid golfer and loved watching college football, especially the Aggies. He watched the Aggies play at home in Kyle Field and many away games for over 50 years. He loved to travel and enjoyed reading legal mysteries.

Jerry was a man of integrity and raised his children to know God, have a good work ethic, and live out strong values. Things his friends would say about him were that he was an honorable gentleman, had a kind and generous nature, and was a loyal friend. He taught his children and grandchildren about golf, chess, and of course, the Aggies. He has 13 grandchildren and one more on the way in October.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Jack Henry Warring and Sallie Warring Davenport, stepfather S.C. “Chester” Davenport, and newborn sister Elizabeth Ann Warring.
