Steven Bickings '05 July 5, 2023 5:10 PM updated: July 5, 2023 5:19 PM

Steven James Bickings
April 13, 1983 - June 22, 2023

On the evening of June 22, 2023, Steven James Bickings, age 40, came into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in eternity.

Steven’s faith in our risen Savior was the cornerstone of his life and that faith shaped his personal relationships as husband, father, son, brother, and friend.

As a husband, Steven was Mary Alice’s best friend, protector, companion, and Godly leader for 16 years. Together they made a home in Wichita Falls, Texas where they prioritized Christ, family, and community.

As father to Brooklyn and Benjamin, Steven created fun. He sought adventurous outdoor experiences (“Mom, you definitely would not have let us do all the stuff Dad let us do in the mountains”), taught them to be brave, and led his children to love Jesus as their Savior. Brooklyn and Ben were Steven’s pride and joy.

As a son, Steven was a life-long source of delight to his parents John and Jayme.

As a brother, Steven remained fiercely competitive, rarely being outdone by his brothers Christian and Conrad.

As a friend and attorney, Steven brought people together and loved them well. He was passionate about helping others, told the best embellished stories, and made people laugh. His attentiveness made those around him feel seen and known, whether he had known them for years or had just met.

Steven was heavily involved in his community and served as Young Life Wichita Falls Committee Member for 13 years, Grace Church small group leader, Burkburnett Lions Club Secretary, and received recognition as Wichita Falls’ “Top 20 under 40” in 2012 and named as “Texas Super Lawyers – Rising Stars” for four years.

Steven had a wide variety of talents and interests that included sailing, hiking, cycling, mountain biking, running, fly fishing, hunting, woodworking, gentlemen ranching, and skiing. He loved the outdoors and his two favorite places in God’s creation were the mountains of Crested Butte, Colorado, and the pastures of his grandparent’s Texas ranch (and perhaps Kyle Field for an Aggie SEC win).

Steven was born on April 13, 1983 and grew up in Bridgeton, New Jersey, accepted Jesus as his Savior at Billy Graham’s 1992 crusade in Philadelphia’s Veterans Stadium, and graduated from Cumberland Regional High School in 2001. After high school Steven became a Texan: he graduated from Texas A&M University in 2005 and from Texas Tech School of Law in 2008. In that same year he joined what is now the Law Offices of Elder, Bickings & Ellzey in Burkburnett and Wichita Falls.

Steven is survived by his wife Mary Alice, children Brooklyn, age 12, and Benjamin, age 9, parents John and Jayme (Edna, Texas, and Bridgeton), parents-by-marriage Greg and Cindy James (Wichita Falls) and Randy and Linda Clement (Wichita Falls), brothers Christian (Julie), and Conrad (Meagan), nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other extended family, and many many friends.

A Celebration of Life for Steven will be held at Grace Church in Wichita Falls on Saturday, July 8, at 2:00 pm. If you feel inclined to make a charitable donation in Steven’s memory, please consider Young Life Wichita Falls.

Steven overflowed with joy, and no obituary tribute could cover his life and how big he loved. Steven leaves a legacy of Christ-centered love that’ll outlast all else.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 15:13
