Paige Marie Merkle
October 28, 1965 - January 5, 2023
Paige Marie Merkle was born in Bryan, Texas, on October 28, 1965. Moving to College Station, she attended A&M Consolidated High School where she was a great student, ran track, and was Point Guard when playing basketball. She graduated with honors and then attended and graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in education in 1987.
She worked at her first teaching job in Vidor, Texas for over 10 years while also serving as the basketball coach, and then returned to A&M to earn a Master's Degree in Accounting. Upon graduation, Paige joined the tax division at Exxon and remained there until retiring in 2021.
Due to her parents failing health, Paige moved back to College Station to be closer to them. Soon after her return, her father passed away suddenly and she convinced her mother to move in with her. The two shared many laughs in the days that followed until her passing.
Although Paige might have been considered "Daddy's girl", she loved to watch sports and talk investments, she just was not fond of cooking, sewing, and shopping. Along with her mother, she loved to play games and help others.
Paige is survived by her mom, Jean Merkle, whom she treasured; brothers, Donnie Merkle of Arlington, Texas and Ashley Merkle of Stephenville, Texas; nephews, Nicholas of Bluffdale and the twins, Lance and Christopher of College Station and their mom, Sheryl Stewart; longtime friend and Exxon co-worker, Cheryl Sutter; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
