Roll Call Tribute

Douglas "Alan" Ward '78 May 15, 2023 4:01 PM updated: May 15, 2023 4:15 PM

Douglas Alan Ward

May 1, 1956 - August 2, 2020

Alan passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 2, 2020, due to natural causes. He was born May 1, 1956 in Dallas, Texas, to Doyal and Colleen Ward. He attended Berkner High School and graduated in 1974.

After Berkner, he continued his education at Texas A&M, where he completed his undergraduate work and doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Ward founded Plano Animal Clinic in 1984 and operated it until the time of his passing, specializing in alternative therapies and the treatment of viral diseases and musculoskeletal disorders.

A devout follower of Christ, Alan grew up at Richardson East Church of Christ, then in his adult years attended Highland Oaks Church of Christ and Trinity Bible Church, where he taught teenagers and shared his love of the Lord. Alan strived for knowledge and education, constantly reading and studying to improve his personal and professional acumen, and leaned on his faith to guide him in all his endeavors.

Alan was a member of the Sierra Club & Audubon Society and shared these avid interests of hiking and bird watching with his children when they were growing up. After his marriage to Telma, he acquired a third hobby he loved, that is, traveling both all around the U.S. and to many countries abroad.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Doyal and Colleen Ward.

He is survived by Theresa Corley, his past wife and the mother of his children; Telma Ward, his lovely wife of the last 20 years; his two sons Kurt and wife Amanda Ward of Saginaw; and Scott and wife Christina Ward of Corinth, his sister Elaine Davis of Garland and brother David and Ann Ward of Big Spring, with their daughters April Farris and Crystal Geigel of Houston. Alan loved spending time with his four grandchildren, Isaac Ward, Olivia Ward, and Kylee and Logan Saunders.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Red Cross or any other charity of your choice.
