Edmundo Omar Hernandez, Sr.

August 8, 1950 - April 28, 2023

Edmundo Omar Hernandez, Sr., 72, of Kennedale, Texas, passed away Friday, April 28, 2023 in Mansfield, Texas. Omar was born on August 8, 1950 to Pedro A. Hernandez and Esther Flores Hernandez in Houston, Texas.

Omar attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM where he received his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 1973. During these years he met and married Emilia Jasso of New Mexico and had their son, Omar Jr.  During that same year, he attended Officer Candidate School with the United States Navy both in New Port, RI and Port Hueneme, CA. Upon completion, he was stationed at Pearl Harbor in 1974. He served honorably for four years, earning the rank of Lieutenant JG. While in Hawaii, Omar and Emilia bore their second child, Monica.

Omar continued on to earn his Master’s of Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1978. He and his family moved to various locations as he worked as an engineer in the petroleum industry, spending time in Tulsa, San Antonio, Lima, Peru and finally settling in the Fort Worth, TX area.

Omar was known for his unmistakable “booming laugh.” No matter where he was, if it was funny, he could not hold back. Omar had a great sense of humor and would constantly share that with his family and friends.

He loved the Lord and was a faithful servant and leader in his walk with God and family, serving in the church diligently.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Esther Hernandez and his sister, Elia Omega Hernandez.

Omar leaves behind a loving wife, Emilia, son Omar Jr. (wife Julie, grandsons Zane and Zac), daughter Monica Tibball (and husband Ryan). He is survived by his sister Ruth H. Diaz and Josue Hernandez and a host of other relatives and friends.

In honor of Omar’s memory, we would like any donations to be sent to the Texas Baptist Men’s organization or the Gideons International organization as he was involved in spreading the word of Christ. Thank you!
