April 26, 1958 – February 4, 2022
Jerry James Barkley, 63 of Temple, Texas, passed away on Feb 4, 2022. He was born on April 26, 1958 in Anchorage, Alaska to Charles Edward Barkley and Gertrude Ruth Barkley (Zettler).
Jerry was single but remained very close to his family and friends throughout his life; Lovingly known as Uncle Duckey. Jerry attended Texas A&M University, Galveston College and The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Jerry was a radiology technologist but also engaged in many types of work over the years. Jerry was a veteran of The United States Army National Guard. Jerry was passionate about good food and reading. His insatiable intellectual appetite took him to many places ranging from his birth place of Alaska to The Republic of Panama where he had friends. In spite of his birth place and travels, Jerry was a die-hard Texan at heart and he would not hesitate to remind you of this irrefutable fact. Jerry was an adopted child and the biggest event of his life was being able to connect with his true blood sister, Coleen, from Portland Oregon in 2011. Jerry moved to Oregon in 2013 to connect with his family and lived there for seven years. He returned to Texas in 2020 because he had left his heart there and it was his true home. Jerry was bigger than life and will be greatly missed by many friends and family.
Jerry is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Colleen and Jerry Payne; adopted brother and sister, Mike and Angie Goode; brother and sisters, Bruce, Charlotte, Teresa, and Beckey; adopted father and mother, Don and Gizzelle Goode, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Barkley and Gertrude Barkley; his birth mother, Tootsie; and brothers, David Rickteroff, Albert Jr., and Glenn Wassillie.
