David James "Jim" Simons, 91, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed away in Fort Worth, Texas on October 24, 2021.
Jim was born on October 9, 1930 in Waco, Texas to David and Freida Simons. He was raised on his family's dairy farm and continued to be involved in livestock enterprises all of his life. Jim graduated from Texas A&M University in 1952 with a Bachelor of
Science degree. He served as Vice President of First National Bank in Waco for 12 years before joining National Finance Credit Corporation of Texas in Fort Worth as a Loan Officer in 1972. He was named President of the National Finance Credit Corporation of
Texas and Texas Livestock Marketing Association in 1982.
Jim is a past vice-chairman of the board of the College of Agricultural Development Council at Texas A&M and a past member of the manager's cabinet of the National Livestock Producers Association. He served on the Board of Directors of the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show from March 1988 until his death in October 2021.
During the 101st Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show in 1997, he was presented with the esteemed W.A. "Bill" King Award for Excellence in Agriculture. "He's the reason a lot of stockmen are still in the business today," said W.R. "Trey" Watt III, Fort Worth Farm & Ranch Club president and the Stock Show's assistant general manager. "It truly is Cowtown," Jim said when he accepted the award in Fort Worth, Texas where he resided for more than 49 years.
In September 1988 Jim married the love of his life, Diana Simons. Upon his retirement, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family & friends, sailing his sailboat ,"As Time Goes By", traveling, serving on the administrative team for Bible Study Fellowship class # 314 and watching his beloved Aggies win on Saturdays! Throughout Jim's life his most fulfilling and rewarding experiences came not just from his work, but from the close friendships he made along the way. Jim was guided in life by his deep unwavering faith in God and His Son Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jim is survived by his wife, Diana Simons; daughter, Sheila O'Flinn & spouse; son, Stewart Simons; son, Chris Simons & spouse; step-son, Brant Pate & spouse; step-son, Tim Pate & spouse; step-daughter, Shannon Walthall & spouse; 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was loved deeply, will be missed greatly, and will remain always in our hearts.
