Aggies Among F-16 Pilots For Mississippi State Flyover

Susan "Sue" Owen '94 September 28, 2021 9:35 AM updated: October 4, 2021 8:57 AM

Aggies from a San Antonio squadron that trains fighter pilots will be part of Saturday's flyover of four F-16s for the game vs. Mississippi State.

The Association of Former Students provides support for gameday flyovers and Midnight Yell, and coordinates events to bring Aggies together such as Class Reunions, Young Alumni Weekend and, at away games, Yell Practice and free All-Aggie Tailgates.

The Texas Air National Guard's 182nd Fighter Squadron, based at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, is the nation’s premier F-16 training squadron tasked with supplying the U.S. Air Force with combat-ready fighter pilots.

Their version of the F-16 is a two-seat variant; one of Saturday's four jets will have two pilots, and another pilot will act as the Forward Air Controller (FAC) inside the stadium helping coordinate the exact timing of the flyover.

The pilots for Oct. 2:

  • Maj. Brian “Tron” Faughn ’05
  • Maj. Michael “Tatwo” Malone ’06
  • Lt. Col. Benjamin “Showdown” Schill
  • Lt. Col. Sean “Stogi” Penrod ’00
  • Maj. Caleb “Biff” Cienski
  • FAC: Lt. Col. Scott “SFTR” Elrod ’97

If you’re an Association of Former Students donor, you help provide hotel accommodations for pilots and crew for home game flyovers. Thank you!

Gameday and parking information can be found at gameday.12thMan.com/football. The Clayton W. Williams, Jr. Alumni Center parking lots are temporarily closed due to construction, but the building will be open before and during the game, closing 30 minutes after the game ends; find details on building access at tx.ag/Visit.

For away games, get details on Association events including Yell Practices at 10 p.m. with the A&M yell leaders and the free All-Aggie Tailgate at tx.ag/AwayGames.

Your donations help The Association of Former Students provide programs and support for current and former students of Texas A&M. To help us help more Aggies, visit tx.ag/Give.
