Jack Ables Strain, 92, of Millsap, Texas, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020.

The viewing will be Monday, January 4, 2021 at 9:00 A.M. at the Poe Prairie Cemetery Pavilion, 233-275 Poe Prairie Rd., Millsap, Texas and graveside services for family and close friends will be held immediately following the viewing at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be at the gravesite after the service. A livestream viewing link for the service will be available at If attending in person, the family requests that a mask be worn and social distancing practiced for safety precautions due to the pandemic.

Jack Strain was born June 14, 1928, in Millsap, Texas, to Wesley and Helen Opal Bankhead Strain. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Texas A & M University in Vocational Agriculture. Jack married Josephyne Hebert on April 18, 1961. He served as a Signalman in the U. S. Navy from 1946 to 1948. After college, Jack taught agriculture for one year and later worked for Swift and Company. He then became a warehouse examiner with the USDA/AMS and was also an avid rancher who was particularly fond of advancing soil conservation practices and stewardship of the land. While working for the government, Jack and his wife moved to Vernon (1961), Tulia (1962), Fort Worth (1966), and finally back to Millsap in 1985, where they made their final home. He and his wife were active members of the Millsap Community.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Josephyne Hebert Strain; parents, Wesley and Helen Strain; three brothers, William F. Strain, Robert R. Strain, and Richard (RB) Strain; a sister, Myrtle Eloise Schick; and granddaughter, Ashley Marie Robbins.

Survivors include his two daughters, Sharon Strain Sullivan of Brock and Janet Strain Robbins and husband, Bruce, of Weatherford; his son, Wade Strain and wife, Marilea, of Willow Park; grandchildren, Randy Sullivan, Jr. and wife, Laura, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Amanda Furr and husband, Chad, of Brock, Nicole Robbins and husband, Adam Davis, of Frisco, Cody Strain and Kailee Strain of Willow Park; four great-grandchildren, Bailey Sullivan, Autumn Sullivan, Tristan Fowler, and Kinley Fowler; and many other extended family and close friends.

The family wants to thank his caregivers, Samantha Ashley, Audra Davis, Vanessa Delgado, Brittni Lee, Maria Mendoza, Amanda Nickell, Giana Redway, and Bianca Zunino who faithfully cared for him and loved him as their own. Also, a special thanks goes out to Martin Crest Assisted Living, Encompass Hospice, and our wonderful nurse Kandra Vickers. We are forever grateful.

Honorary pallbearers: Cody Strain, Randy Sullivan, Jr., Bruce Robbins, Chad Furr, Adam Davis, Kevin Strain, Kris Strain, Wesley Strain, Lee Strain, Robert Strain, Jim Schick, and Bill Schick.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Millsap Community Center, 410 W. W. Lane, Millsap, Texas 76066.
