Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Central Church of Christ with Dan Bouchelle officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street.

Bud was born May 19, 1922, in Amarillo, to Clifford and Vera McMurtry of Amarillo. Bud grew up and lived in Amarillo all his life. After graduating from Amarillo High School, Bud went to Texas A&M University, where he studied architecture. Prior to completing his degree, he joined the Army and served in World War II as a first lieutenant.

Among the medals he received for his service to our country were the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. After his release from the Army, Bud returned to Amarillo in 1945 and married Bobbie Jones, daughter of Robert C. and Lois Jones. They returned to Texas A&M where Bud completed his degree in architecture.

Bud served the Texas Panhandle and beyond as an architect/builder, building many commercial and residential structures. Bud loved hunting and fishing. He raised and trained bird dogs.

Bud was also an exceptional watercolor and pastel painter of Western landscapes. He was a lifelong member of the Amarillo Country Club, where he and his wife enjoyed many years of friendship. Together, Bud and Bobbie loved life, serving their church, community, neighbors and family.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Judy McAlpine of New Braunfels and Molly Bogan of Rowlett; four grandchildren, Lee Taylor and James Taylor, both of Amarillo, Becky Bogan of Boston, and Breann Fierro of Rowlett; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family suggest memorials be to Central Church of Christ, 1401 S. Monroe St., Amarillo, TX 79101.
