New Maroon Out Shirts Call Back To 1998

Susan "Sue" Owen '94 August 5, 2019 5:23 PM updated: August 6, 2019 10:16 AM

It’s not just one game anymore!

The student-led Maroon Out organization today unveiled their 2019 T-shirt design and announced that this year’s intention is to Maroon Out every Aggie home football game, all season long.

With its image of a vintage Kyle Field and slogan “Yell Like It’s 1998,” the shirt calls back to the origins of the tradition; the first Maroon Out effort sprang from students’ desire in 1998 to outmatch red-wearing Nebraska fans in the stands. (Back then, wearing maroon to every game wasn’t Aggie fans’ standard practice.)

The shirts will be sold locally and online. Visit tx.ag/MaroonOut19 to buy online.

Previously, one game each year had been designated by students as the Maroon Out game – usually one of the toughest on the schedule.

Switching to a season-long effort will build camaraderie and help raise even more funds for scholarships and Class Council programs, said Maroon Out’s head director, Colleen Russell ’20.
