2019 Class of ’64 Mini-Reunion, Oct. 2-4

At our recently concluded 55th Sul Ross Group Induction, our Classmates encouraged us to continue with Mini-Reunions in addition to the annual March Sul Ross Group Reunion.

With the assistance of The Association of Former Students, our next Mini-Reunion will be Oct 2-4. We will have a Wednesday check-in with Friday departure. The Mini-Reunion will take place in the Clear Lake area, southeast of Houston. Our headquarters hotel will be the Hilton Houston Hotel in Clear Lake, across the street from the NASA/ Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. Excellent Hilton rates were negotiated for a block of rooms at $89/night (two double beds). Upon check-in, you will have the option to purchase Discounted Breakfast Buffet coupons for $12 per person. The Hilton also has free self-parking.

• NASA Space Tours (public or private). Depending on how many participants, we may be able to have a private tour with lunch.
• San Jacinto Monument
• Tour Battleship Texas
• Ellington Field WWII Lone Star Flight Museum
• Kemah Boardwalk
• Outlet Mall on IH-45 near Texas City
• Boat Tours
• Great restaurants galore and shopping
• Or, just sit in the lobby and visit with Classmates!

Oct. 2-4 will be an excellent time for a Mini-Reunion since our Fighting Texas Aggie Football Team has an open date on Saturday, Oct. 5, and will not play a football game that weekend. Therefore, there should no conflict with any football travel plans.

One of our Classmates, Adrien Drouilhet, recommended this Mini-Reunion idea to us as he has traveled to this area many times to visit his brother-in-law who recently retired from NASA. Adrien brings an empty cooler each time and loads up on fresh seafood just off the boats at seafood markets in Seabrook just minutes from the Hilton. Great idea for all of you seafood lovers!

With the concurrence of The Association of Former Students, there will be no registration fee since we will not have a planned group dinner at the Hotel. The Association will provide name tags to us for all who register at the hotel. For those in the local area who drive over but do not stay in the hotel, just email or call a Class Agent and give us your names and we will have name tags ready for you.

At many of our Mini-Reunions, a lot of our “visiting” occurs at breakfast time. Guys come down early for coffee, congregate and chat, have breakfast when the wives come down, and then continue visiting with various classmates until our wives say it’s time to go sightseeing/shopping! As for Wednesday and Thursday dinner plans, there are a variety of great restaurants in the area for couples and groups to consider.

On a related topic, hopefully, you saw in the March-April 2019 issue of the "Texas Aggie" magazine the cover story of all the Aggies that work at NASA.

“There’s a lot of Aggies at NASA. Over the past five years, we’ve had quite a flux of students coming from A&M and going to NASA. That relationship is growing,” said Gregory Chamitoff, a former astronaut and professor of engineering at A&M.
