Mike "Doc" Mayabb
MAY 13, 1951 – MAY 11, 2019

Dr. Virgil Melvin Mayabb, Jr., known to everyone as Mike, passed away on May 11, 2019 in Austin, Texas, at the age of 67. Mike battled multiple myeloma for 8 years and died of complications from pneumonia.

He was born at the Naval Hospital in Corpus Christi to Virgil and Wilma Mayabb. Mike grew up in Garland, Texas, where he met the love of his life at the age of 15. Vicki and Mike were married on June 11, 1971 and attended Texas A&M University together. Mike went on to University of Texas Medical School, and then practiced internal medicine for 35 years. The majority of his years in practice were spent at the Austin Diagnostic Clinic and he was part of the team that first started at the North Austin Medical Center in 1995.

Mike will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Vicki, his daughters Lindsey (husband Andrew Strittmatter) and Kelsey (husband Sean Fitzgerald). He will also be affectionately remembered as “Doc” by his 4 grandchildren Amelia and August Strittmatter, and Hadley and Logan Fitzgerald. They loved swimming with Doc in the summer, learning about his coin collection, and could always make him smile.

Mike is survived by his brother Carl Mayabb (wife Sandy), and his 7 nieces and 4 nephews along with their respective spouses and children. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Linda Mayabb, sister Gloria Madewell, sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Freddy Lytle, and his dear friend Dr. Randy Clark.

Mike was so loved by his family, friends, colleagues, and patients and will be greatly missed.

Thank you for honoring his life with us today.
