Howdy, Class of 1966! Register for our Mini-Reunion in Fredericksburg

Larry Jerden '66 January 15, 2019 9:42 AM updated: August 19, 2019 11:06 AM

It's time to register for Fredericksburg!

Class of ’66, now is the time to register for our Fredericksburg Mini-Reunion, April 3-6. We’ll be checking in to the Fredericksburg Inn & Suites on Wednesday, and checking out on Saturday morning. If you want to come out Thursday or stay over Saturday night, that’s OK, too!

Room rates for Wednesday and Thursday night are $139 per night (parking lot side), $159 (pool side) and $189 (suites); Friday and Saturday night rates are $229 (parking lot side), $249 (pool side), and $279 (suites). You can make your reservations now by calling the Fredericksburg Inn & Suites at 800-446-0202 or 830-997-0202. Tell them you want to make a reservation for the Texas A&M Class of ’66. The room block pricing is subject to change after March 3.

Registration for the Mini-Reunion will be $39 per person. This will cover our catered fajita buffet on Thursday night, as well as provide a supply of wine, beer, soft drinks, coffee, tea and bottled water for our ongoing “happy hour” and games in the Cypress Room by the pool. It will also help replenish our somewhat-depleted Class of ’66 reserve account. Spirits and mixers will be on a BYOB basis.

Please fill out the registration form to register for the Mini-Reunion as soon as possible so we can make plans for activities.

All activities will be on a pay-as-you-go basis. Please use the attached response form to let us know which activities you would be interested in so we can have a head-count to make appropriate plans. Some disappointing news: (1) the Rockbox Theater event from Friday night has been canceled. After weeks of waiting for their early April program to be released, they have decided to close for the weekend we are going to be in town! (2) The Cabernet Grill has decided they cannot handle a group our size. (see below)

  1. Dinner on Wednesday Night:
Since this last-minute decision by the Cabernet Grill, anyone wishing to dine there on Wednesday night will have to make individual reservations. You may call the restaurant at 830-990-5734. The largest table seating they have is six, and they will not take any reservations for groups larger than this. Some may want to still eat there, but we may have to look for other options.
  2. Golf on Thursday and/or Friday:
We will organize a golf outing for those duffers who can still swing a club. If you are interested in golfing, check the appropriate box on the form along with the number in your party.
  3. Winery Tours Thursday or Friday:
As you know, the Hill Country is chocked full of wineries, so if you want to taste-test the local wines, check the appropriate box on the form along with the number in your party.
  4. First Friday Art Walk:
Participating fine art galleries have events from about 5-8 p.m. on Friday, so that you can have time to visit the various events and exhibits planned throughout the day and enjoy local refreshments. (About 10 wineries take part.) A fantastic way to see the finest in regional, national and international art in a beautiful Texas Hill Country setting. Just look for the galleries flying the Art Walk Flag!
  5. Wildflower Celebration at Wildseed Farms begins Saturday:
A celebration of the arrival of springtime and wildflower blossoms, this annual festival begins Saturday, but the venue is open during the week, including the butterfly gardens, walking trails, shopping and refreshments at the country’s largest working wildflower farm. This can be a small-group outing for anyone wanting to spend some time amidst the flowers. The box is there for checking!
  6. National Museum of the Pacific War
Yes, most of us have been there, but we’ve got to at least walk over and make sure our Class of ’66 plaque is still in good condition! No box needed.
  7. Much, much more:
Go to Visit Fredericksburg website for a look at the myriad of events and attractions available in and around this Hill Country jewel (including Luckenbach!).

The main activity, of course, will be sharing time with our Old Army buddies and their wives and families. We’re only two years away from joining the Sul Ross Group at our 55th Anniversary Reunion, so let’s get together as the Class of ’66 and tell those old stories one more time (if we can remember them!).

See you in Fredericksburg!
