Andrew “Charles” Grimland

October 15, 2018

Andrew “Charles” Grimland of Nacogdoches left his earthly body behind due to natural causes and went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Monday, October 15, 2018. Charles was born April 2, 1934 in Brownwood, Texas to parents Joel Irving Grimland and Floy Nicholson Grimland.

Charles enjoyed an active lifestyle embracing his love for golf on the course of his beloved Piney Woods Country Club. However, life changed for Charles when his loving wife of 61 years preceded him in death. Brokenhearted from loss, Charles began to decline and his ability to “conquer the course” slipped away. Yet, the Lord worked all things together for good in the life of Charles, and prior to his earthly death, Charles found new hope in Christ. February 17, 2018 in the presence of his daughter, Charles called out to Jesus and placed his life in the Master’s Hand.

Charles earned his undergraduate degree from Howard Payne University where he dated and married the love of his life, Mary Neal (Huff) Grimland. He was quarterback of the mighty Howard Payne Yellow Jackets and forever treasured special memories of teammates who were like family. Charles earned his Master of Education degree from the University of North Texas and his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Texas A&M University. Charles was an educator and professor at Stephen F. Austin Sate University for twenty-five years until his retirement.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Neal (Huff) Grimland. Charles is survived by his son, David Grimland and wife Carolyn; daughter Kaye Grimland Hooper and husband Kirk. Grandchildren that were his pride and joy include Taylor Grimland Shaw and husband Will; Haley Grimland Ford and husband Bill; Cami Grimland; Mary Elizabeth Hooper Ostteen and husband Ephraim, and Aaron Hooper; Great-granddaughter Andrea “Andy” Shaw was his delight.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in the Chapel of First Baptist Church Nacogdoches, November 1O, 2018 at 11am. The family has requested casual dress and that all golfers wear golf attire in honor of their golf buddy “Grim.”

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given in support of the church that loved so well: First Baptist Church Nacogdoches, 411 North Street, Nacogdoches, TX 75961
