This weekend, Nov. 9-11, marks the ninth annual Aggie Big Kick It, the Black Former Student Network's 2018 reunion.
Nearly 200 Aggies came to BKI events in 2017, and 300 are expected this year, said founder Shannan E. Johnson ’04.
The BFSN is a chartered constituent network of The Association of Former Students that was formed in 2001. Their Big Kick It committee and its student BKI committee are coordinating not only a weekend full of homecoming-like events, but chances for students to connect throughout this week leading up to Big Kick It.
This year’s BFSN Big Kick It committee includes Johnson, chair Raisha Smith ’13, Tracy Petry ’91, former co-chair Reggie Hendrix ’00, Brian Bolden ’09, Christal-Joy Turner ’14, Crys-chelle Tate ’17 and Dede Nwanguma ’19.
The weekend’s main events are a Friday night block party with a DJ in Rudder Plaza, a catered tailgate and game-watch Saturday at The Association, and a networking brunch on Sunday. Get details at the website, on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
Student events leading up to and connected with 2018's Big Kick It include a student informational Monday night, networking ice cream social Tuesday night, “Hump Night” on Wednesday, and participation Thursday night in Texas A&M’s Fusion Fiesta, an annual event with 25 student organizations participating this year, including the African Student Association, Aggie Black Male Connection, Matthew Gaines Task Force and TAMU NAACP.
More Aggie student groups connecting with the BFSN this week include the A&M Black Graduate Students Association, the Black Student Alliance Council, MSC Carter G. Woodson Black Awareness Committee, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Kappa Alpha Psi, Alpha Phi Alpha, Omega Psi Phi, Black Wall Street, Sigma Gamma Rho, Mosaic Flowers, Southwestern Black Student Leadership Conference, National Society of Black Engineers and ExCel.
