Lt. Gen. Peterson '66 To Be Interred In D.C. June 18

Lt. Gen. Donald L. Peterson '66 will be interred with full military honors June 18, 2018, at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. Details on attending are below.

Peterson was the deputy chief of staff for personnel at U.S. Air Force headquarters in D.C. and a former commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Space Command. 

He passed away July 3, 2017, after a long illness. A memorial service was held July 8 in Allen, northeast of Dallas, that was attended by several of his '66 Classmates.

At Texas A&M, Petersen was in Squadron 11, was the Ross Volunteers administration officer and Air Division executive officer, a member of Town Hall Committee, the Finance Society, Cadet Court and the Apollo Club and a host for SCONA XI. He was survived by Gayle, his wife of 51 years, son Donald '92 and his wife, Kerry, and three grandchildren, a brother and a sister and their families.

His assignments included serving as chief of Air Force operations assignments, as a major command inspector general, as director of plans and operations at Air Education and Training Command, and as the director of plans and assistant deputy chief of staff for air and space operations. He was a command pilot, having flown more than 4,000 hours, including 597 combat hours. Read more here.

Attending the Arlington service:

The chapel service will begin at 11 a.m. All guests are welcome and should arrive at the Old Post Chapel on Fort Myer no later than 10:30 a.m., arriving through the Hatfield gate, which is open to both civilians and military. Click here for directions. Following the chapel service, the caisson will proceed to the gravesite with escort platoon and military band for the flag folding and presentation.
