Robert L. Peurifoy
March 15, 1931 - March 19, 2017

Robert (Bob) Peurifoy died on March 19, 2017, at the age of 86.

He joined Sandia Labs in New Mexico in 1952 after graduating from Texas A and M. He remained at Sandia for 39 years, serving as director of nuclear weapon development and retiring as a vice president. He was commended by Secretary of Energy James Watkins for his “outstanding service to our national security program,” including his “strong advocacy for improving the safety of deployed weapons” and “significant cost savings.” During his retirement he continued to urge a reduction in the number of nuclear weapons in the stockpile and improved security.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara; son Steve and wife Eileen; daughter Jan and husband Alex Hybel; granddaughters Sabrina and Gabriela Hybel; and several nieces and nephews. A son, Richard, preceded him in death.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
