Brantley Glover Myers Sr. (his friends called him "BG") passed away peacefully into the hands of Jesus at Sunset Senior Center in Conroe, Tx on May 26, 2016 at the age of 92. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 9, 1924 to the parents of Sterling Walker Myers I and Martha Elizabeth Culpepper - both of whom had preceded him in death. He was one of nine children in this order (Jesse, Maybel, Ethel, Alvin, Daughty, Clarence, Brantley, Mary, Bob) all of whom preceded him in death.
Brantley married Margaret Louis Kountz (still living) in 1948. Our beloved father is survived by Sharron Gaye Hejtmancik and husband, Kelly, Sr.; Sons: Brantley Glover Myers Jr., Clinton Daryl Myers Sr., Sterling Walker Myers II and spouse Deborah Lynn and Malcolm Neal Myers who preceded his death on September 7, 2006. Brantley is survived by many adoring grandchildren and step grandchildren who affectionately called him Pawpaw and they are: Ann Marie Hejtmancik Hall and husband Mark Fibranz, Kelly Erwin Hejtmancik Jr. and spouse Marie, Deke Hatley and spouse Karri, Dayrin Hatley, Marki Fayrn Hatley, Brantley Brendan Myers, Clinton Daryl Myers Jr., Sterling Walker Myers III and spouse Marianne, Jared Austin Myers, and Elysa Corynn Myers. Brantley's adoring great grandchildren and step great grandchildren referred to him affectionately as Boom Paw and they are: Zachary Kelly Hejtmancik, Joshua Lee Hall, Jordan Fibranz, Kelly Erwin Hejtmancik III, Ella Rae Hejtmancik, Nate Hejtmancik, Libby Hejtmancik, Daulton Hatley, Brooklyn Hatley, Valerie Sumrow and Anthony Hatley.
Early in life Brantley always excelled in school and in the fall of 1942 he became a member of the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M University and quickly fell in love with the Spirit of Aggieland. He was part of the class of '46 but was drafted his sophomore year and served in Patton's 3rd Army (2nd Battalion 94th and later 301st Infantry Division) from 16 September 1943 till 16 January 1946. Decorations and citations: EAME Campaign Medal with 4 bronze stars, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star (presented by GO #140 HQ 94th Inf Div on 2 Jun 1945) and World War II Victory Medal. He was drafted into the Army as a Private and was Honorably Discharged as a Sergeant.
Brantley returned to Texas A&M in the spring of 1946 to finish his studies under the GI bill. He graduated from Texas A&M with two degrees in 1948: Petroleum and Mechanical Engineering - while he was married.
After graduation, Brantley worked for over 20 years as a Petroleum Engineer for DOW and was eventually promoted to General Manager for the Southern Texas Region. He left DOW and became a State Farm Insurance Agent for 20 years - he scored the highest of any agent in the nation at the time on the entrance exam. Along the way he owned two cattle farms/ranches in Pearsall and Jarrell, Texas where he raised BeefMaster cattle. His last job of about 15 years was with the IRS where he audited income tax returns. He worked full time till the age of 77 – an inspiration to all.
He loved to tell stories and give advice. When he spoke, you listened, hanging on to every word. He could captivate any audience. He was a "man's man"; a leader not a follower. And if he ever found out you voted for a Democrat God help you!
His loves in life were his parents (especially his Mom), family, friends, cows and anything to do with Texas A&M – note this is not necessarily in order of priority.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting a donation be made for a Brantley G. Myers Sr. memorial so that each year an Aggie Ring can be presented to a deserving Corps of Cadet upcoming Senior. Please contact Sterling Myers for more details.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 10:00 am at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, Tx 77303; phone: 936-756-2126.
