Jim BREWER(1958 - 2016)
BREWER, Jim
Jesus came and put His arm around one of the most kind and generous men in Austin. Our beloved Jim, age 57, had courageously battled pancreatic cancer for almost 2 years. During that time he kept his positive and loving nature and
never gave up hope.
Jim was born on October 17th, 1958, to Glenn and Jeanne Brewer of Fayetteville, Georgia. His dad was a captain in the Navy and his family was fortunate to make new friends in many localities across the country. His parents settled in Fayetteville, Pennsylvania while Jim was in Middle School and they lived there for many years in the mountains. Jim's High School was the highly regarded Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania followed by his Alma Mater Texas A&M University. He was a proud Texas A&M Aggie, loving his time in the Corps of Cadets, Fish Drill Team, and supporting the Aggies any way he could.
He graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering and had many job offers but chose an engineering firm in San Antonio where he met his wife of nearly 33 years, Lisa. They fell in love, married and moved to Georgia Tech where Jim received his Master's in Environmental Engineering. Because they missed the great state of Texas they moved back and were blessed with 3 phenomenal children who completed Jim's life in so many ways. He was a very proud father, husband, brother, engineer (Doucet Engineering), Knights of Columbus member, football fan, and friend to many. He touched many lives and put so many people's needs ahead of his own. He had character and integrity in all areas of his life.
He is survived by his adoring wife Lisa and their amazing children Mike, Nick, and Jenny. All 3 are brilliant and successful like their dad. He is also survived by his parents Glenn and Jeanne Brewer, Sisters Kathy, Barb, and Ceci. He was also fortunate to have numerous brother and sisters-in-laws, many nieces and nephews, and true friends near and far.
We would like to thank Texas Oncology, Gentiva Hospice Austin, and everyone who sent food and love our way during this journey. As Stuart Scott said, "When you die that does not mean you lose to Cancer, you beat Cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live." Jim was outstanding and I'm certain that he is living in the glory of God. Funeral services will be Weds., April 13th at St. Catherine of Sienna in Southwest Austin. Please say a rosary prior to the service to honor Jim. In lieu of flowers please donate your time to help others to continue Jim's tradition of selfless service.
