Land of the Ice Bears

May 23, 2018 - June 2, 2018

A mere 600 miles from the North Pole, in Norway’s High Arctic, Svalbard is true wilderness, a pristine blue-white land of towering glaciers, lapidary fjords, teeming bird colonies, huddles of walruses hauled out on pebbled beaches, and reindeer grazing on tundra ablaze with wildflowers. But few experiences are as profound as observing polar bears in Svalbard. To be on National Geographic Explorer in the Arctic, as it draws close to a bear hunting or a mother bear instructing her young cubs, is simply enthralling. Observing these creatures that remain completely undisturbed by those gazing from the deck rail is one of life’s most satisfying experiences. Hike with naturalists across the tundra. Zodiac cruises and kayak outings allow for water-level explorations of beautiful icebergs. And traveling with a National Geographic photographer ensures you’ll have the help you need to capture incredible photos from your expedition.
