Bhutan Unveiled

April 4, 2014 - April 17, 2014

The nation is a bastion of Mahayana Buddhism, and the teachings of this spiritual tradition influence all aspects of life in the kingdom. Visit holy Buddhist shrines and isolated hermitages. Discover Bhutan’s culture through art and music. Bhutan is a land of capped peaks, alpine meadows, and exotic flora and fauna. Its awe-inspiring Himalayas, ancient culture and friendly people make it a magical place even for the most intrepid of travelers. Among the many highlights, this program coincides with the Paro Tsechu festival. See the ancient capital city of Thimphu, home of the King of Bhutan, lovely mountain scenery and the mysterious, beautiful Shangri-La-like valley of Bumthang in central Bhutan. Visit Paro Valley and see the striking “Tiger's Nest” Monastery on a cliff. Behind-the-scenes visits have been arranged, including meetings with a Bhutanese family in their farmhouse and a visit with a senior monk in a monastery.
