Lewis & Clark's Eastern Legacy Trail

August 8, 2013 - August 22, 2013

On an authentic American river cruise aboard the grand steamboat American Queen, follow the Eastern Legacy Trail, first traveled by legendary explorers Lewis and Clark in the early 1800s. Following a two-night stay in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, birthplace of the steamboat, board the majestic American Queen and cruise to Wheeling, WV and see grand Victorian architecture. Take in the Ohio River Museum in Marietta before visiting Point Pleasant, a town rich in local history. Next is Portsmouth, a town that flourished after the completion of the Erie Canal, then visit Cincinnati, a classic river city on the scenic Ohio River. Travel to Louisville, where the Midwest and the South meet at the Falls of the Ohio, and where Lewis and Clark set off to explore the Louisiana Purchase. Pay a visit to Henderson, a quintessential American river town with stunning century-old mansions; and Paducah, a river town established by William Clark in 1827. Learn about Cape Girardeau’s fascinating history before continuing to Chester, home to the Liberty Bell of the West - a gift from King Louis XV of France. Your cruise concludes in St. Louis, where you’ll find a symbol of America’s frontier journey, the Gateway Arch.
