Sue Ellen ’81 knew she wanted to be an Aggie after first going to Kyle Field with her dad, Jack Slack ’48, in the 1960’s. Sue Ellen graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, minors in industrial engineering and math, and a secondary teacher certification in math and psychology.
She taught pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry at Katy Taylor High School. After relocating to New Braunfels, she spent 25 years as a math tutor in both the public and private setting. Sue Ellen tutored all grade levels of math from first grade to college calculus and was a volunteer tutor in other disciplines in public schools. She served on the FUMC Day School Board, the Parent Advisory Council for New Braunfels ISD, and was one of the founders of the New Braunfels ISD Education Foundation. Sue Ellen currently serves on the Dean’s Development Council for Texas A&M's College of Education and Human Development.
Phil’s (’80) love for the world’s oceans led him to Texas A&M University where he graduated with a degree in Ocean Engineering. In 1994, he launched The Miner Corporation, a leading national provider of mission-critical facilities services and asset management solutions for retail, distribution, manufacturing, healthcare and hospitality companies. In 2012, The Miner Corporation merged with Total Fleet Solutions, a portfolio company of CI Capital Partners of New York.
Today Phil serves as Vice Chairman of the parent company–Material Handling Services, LLC. Phil was selected as a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award and serves on various advisory boards including San Antonio Sports and the Mays Business School’s Center for New Ventures and Entrepreneurship. Phil is a board member of The Association of Former Students.
Sue Ellen and Phil have three children, Brady, Nick ’10, and Mallory ’12.
"One of the most anticipated moments of an Aggie is the moment that Aggie receives his/her Aggie ring. Behind every Aggie is a personal story—why he/she came to A&M, what it took to get there, and all that had to happen to earn and purchase an Aggie Ring. The ring is not just a piece of jewelry. It’s a symbol of all that binds Aggies together—past, present, and future. It’s our most visible tradition we can proudly wear as a reminder of our core values, our Aggie family, our rich history of sacrifice and our promising future of positively changing the world. We gave this gift so that more Aggies can proudly wear their Aggie Ring and understand that even a ring can give a sense of something larger than self. Just one more Aggie Ring worn on an Aggie’s hand will lead to hundreds of instant reunions of Aggies around the world."

”I enjoy playing Duplicate Bridge and doing Volunteer work. I love visiting my family and grandchildren. I have two children, a son Braden, a daughter, Karyn. Three grandsons, Michael, Joey, Georgi and one great granddaughter, Lyla.”
“I established an Aggie Ring Endowment because of how important and recognizable the Aggie ring is. No matter where you go, you recognize the Aggie ring, whether on an airplane or at a dinner party, you know you have just found a friend.”
