Kingwood, TX

From their first encounter in a political science class to their engagement under the Century Tree, Michael and Alicia fell in love with Texas A&M through the unbreakable bonds and impactful connections the institution has allowed them to create over the years.

Through learning opportunities with professors and with companies in the private sector, Michael attributes his success in his professional career to his education at A&M. He graduated from A&M with a degree in mechanical engineering and is an asset manager for ExxonMobil.

He said that connections to A&M, coupled with its excellence in education and developing people, make it natural for him to give back to the university. “My wife and I have always been interested in giving, and we believe it is one of the responsibilities of being good and contributing part of the greater community,” Michael said.

The Bowens continue to share their love for A&M with their extended family, including children Rachel Bowen ’17 and Samuel Bowen ’21.

Jimmie Bratton graduated from Texas A&M in 1964 with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering. As a student, Bratton was a member of Corps of Cadets Squadron 15, as well as a Ross Volunteer.

After completing his freshman year, he married Aileen, and several years later, while Jimmie Bratton was in graduate school, the couple welcomed their first son. The demands of school and a growing family kept the Brattons very busy. Still, Jimmie Bratton cites this time at A&M as creating the foundation of his career, providing him with both the knowledge and leadership skills needed to be successful.

“Texas A&M prepares its students to be successful in not just a profession but in life,” he said. “The principles, the ethics instilled in one at A&M are the foundation of a successful life.”

He received various scholarships over the years that enabled him to stay in school and for which he was always incredibly grateful. The impact of those scholarships and the life lessons he learned at A&M prompted Bratton to want to give another student the same positive Aggie experience.
