My wife and I wanted to make this gift in memory of my parents who were married for 57 years. Although neither was a college graduate, they encouraged all their children to get a college education, which we did. Texas A&M University continues to stand out as a distinctively great university, guided by tradition but practical in adapting to fulfill its mission as Texas’ premier university. The type of people that are drawn to Texas A&M year after year make it so outstanding and continue to make me proud that I am associated with it. To the extent that our gift can help to perpetuate the excellence that is Aggieland, we are happy to give.

Joel - I attended Texas A&M because it had an excellent reputation for engineering, was most affordable, was without exception the most friendly campus I visited, was true to the values and ethics I strongly believed in and still do – faith, honesty, integrity, hard work, caring and service to others. Karen – I attend Texas A&M because it was affordable and also because in 1972 when I entered I was among the first women to live on campus in Krueger Hall and the challenge to be able to go where other women had not been before was exciting.

A&M gave me the opportunity to grow, learn and mature. I learned the values of friendship and duty. I hope someone will benefit from their time at A&M as I was fortunate to do. The bond between Aggies always meant you could find a friend wherever your life’s journey took you. The Aggie Network is a living, breathing reality.

Our favorite tradition is Aggie Muster—“Once an Aggie, always an Aggie.” It is comforting to know every Aggie is remembered by their comrades and they will answer “Here” when we can no longer answer for ourselves. Another is the Corps of Cadets. Although we have always had tremendous respect and appreciation for the Corps, it was enhanced the last four years by our son’s experience and growth. The traditions and camaraderie are unmatched. Stepoff, March-in, Final Review—all stir tremendous pride and emotion toward Texas A&M.

As we began making college plans with our daughter this year, it became a time to remember all the great times we had while attending A&M, and how much of an impact A&M has had on our lives. From meeting each other in Sbisa to the values A&M instills in its students, our lives have been shaped by that time. Jobs on campus, scholarships, student loans, and the generosity of others helped us graduate, and we wanted to give just a little bit back.
